The Digital Economy „MADE IN GERMANY“
The use of ICT is changing the working world. New technologies are developing at a rapid pace. Plattform Industrie 4.0 is designed as a unique forum for keeping companies and institutions in touch with progress.
The governing principle behind Plattform Industrie 4.0, one of the world’s largest industry networks, is to shape the digital transformation of Germany’s industry in a coordinated way. The platform was established in May 2015 and has quickly become the primary network driving the digital transformation of industry in Germany. Representatives of government, business, research, industry associations and labor unions are working hand-in-hand to coordinate and steer the digital transformation process. Some 250 stakeholders from 159 organizations are committed to this objective as members of Plattform Industrie 4.0. The project is managed by German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sigmar Gabriel and German Federal Minister of Research Johanna Wanka, in cooperation with high-ranking representatives of the private sector, research institutions and labor unions.

Mid-sized companies are an important part of this process. Issues of labor organization, IT security, and data protection all play a vital role here, as do qualification programs for professionals and the development of harmonized norms and standards. Five working groups from the platform deliver solutions in these and many other areas; their primary focus is on drafting and documenting precompetitive concepts and recommendations for action. To that end, they uploaded a broad range of publications to an online library for the 2015 Hannover Messe. Plattform Industrie 4.0 is also forging international partnerships and working with numerous national and international alliances, including the USbased Industrial Internet Consortium and the Japanese Robots Revolution Initiative. The platform picks up on the issues discussed with these groups and explores solutions in cooperation with its international partners.
