‘Bot the Builder

Automation: This peanut-shaped pavilion in Schwäbisch-Gmünd was fabricated by robots and is part of a larger robotics trend in Germany.

The Landesgartenschau Exhibition Hall in eastern Germany is the world’s first computer-designed and robot-manufactured building. It was created as a showcase for new technological possiblities in lightweight timber construction. Conceived by the University of Stuttgart and supported by European Union and State of Baden-Württemberg funding, the 2,700-square-foot space took just three weeks to construct and was made possible by a KR Quantec robot from KUKA robotics that precision-cut each piece of the puzzle.
