In this issue, we have several pieces of important logistics news: The status of Leipzig/Halle Airport as a major global cargo hub is expecting another major boost soon. In 2008, the airport became the European hub of DHL Aviation, and it has now been announced that the airport has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hubei Province Communications Investment Group and SF Express, one of the largest express cargo delivery companies in China. The cooperation agreement says that SF Express will use the airport as its preferred hub for future cargo traffic between Asia and Europe after building a partner airport near Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province by 2020.
Meanwhile, Amazon plans to move into an 18,000 m² building in the Port of Hamburg and open a distribution center that will create up to 220 new jobs. The Raben Group, an international provider of comprehensive logistics services with Dutch roots plans to construct a new logistics center in Fahrbinde, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.Online clothing discounter Lesara plans to invest EUR 45 million to build a logistics center and European distribution hub in Erfurt, which is expected to create 200 new jobs when it opens in August 2018. The Berlin-based company sells fashion and lifestyle products exclusively via the internet.
