Germany sets new record for renewable energy production in March
54.4 percent of public electricity produced in March 2019 came from renewable sources
Berlin (GTAI) - Germany has reached a major milestone in its transition to clean energy. According to Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, a whopping 54.4 percent of public electricity produced in the country in March 2019 came from renewable sources. That was up from 41 percent the previous month. It was the first time in history that renewable energy production broke through the 50 percent mark. The previous high was 48.6 percent, set back in May 2018.
“This is a very significant achievement,” said Esther Frey, Director of Energy, Construction and Environmental Technologies at Germany Trade & Invest. “It shows that German investment in renewable energy sources is changing the way the country will get its power in future.”
