Berlin (gtai) - New products, services, and manufacturer alliances as well as favorable conditions have created irreversible momentum in the German smart home market, a study by Deloitte has found. There will be one million intelligent and networked smart homes in Germany by 2020 according to the report’s conservative projection - and as early as 2018 under a more optimistic scenario.Germany: Smart homes in 1000s (conservative and optimistic projection) | Graphic reproduced courtesy of BITKOM; Source: Deloitte | © Germany: Smart homes in 1000s (conservative and optimistic projection) | Graphic reproduced courtesy of BITKOM; Source: Deloitte
The study, which was carried out for the connected home focus group at the national IT summit, also cites falling hardware and service prices, innovative start-ups, a dynamic housing market, and better broadband access among the drivers of growth.
“Smart homes are all about increasing quality of life and energy efficiency at home,” says Henning Ellermann, energy efficiency expert at Germany Trade & Invest. “Germany has been a leading market in the field and these new figures demonstrate the potential in this exciting sector”.
