Event Review: Day of German Unity Reception
More than 2.500 guests celebrated the Day of German Unity at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Washington D.C. The ceremony was officially opened by Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heiko Maas, US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, and newly appointed Ambassador Dr. Emily Haber.
In addition, the President of the Goethe Institut, Dr. Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, and the President of the BDI, Dieter Kempf, launched the campaign "Deutschlandjahr." This initiative is a year-long campaign of German-American Friendship titled "Wunderbar Together" which celebrates the transatlantic partnership of Germany and the USA through dialogue, experience, and exchange. An extraordinary light show accompanied by music was projected on the actual Residence as part of the kick-off.
As the Embassy’s official partner, GTAI provided information on doing business in Germany at their own information booth during the event. The GTAI Pavilion hosted the booths of the economic development agencies of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and North Rhine-Westphalia.
A new attraction for all guests to see was a multimedia cube, arranged in cooperation with the German National Tourist Board. It projected spectacular rotating images of Germany’s landscape.
Musical entertainment was provided by the German Army Band "Heeresmusikkorps Koblenz" and the U.S. Air Force Band "Max Impact", which created a great atmosphere at the event. The guests could admire replicas of Berlin landmarks like the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin TV Tower and experience German culture by tasting the cuisine of different German regions.
