Smart Factory Industry Forum
A number of industrial leaders gathered for the first Smart Factory Industry forum at the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute on October 9th in Chicago, hosted by the German American Chamber of Commerce Midwest (GACC), Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) and Hannover Messe.
The emergence of smart manufacturing technologies, called the 4th industrial revolution or Industrie 4.0 by many, has started to transform manufacturing as we know it. Merging the physical with the virtual world of the internet enables companies to increase productivity while reducing costs. Cyber-physical systems, intelligent communication and the Internet of Things offer the potential of a new age of production through seamless interoperability and instant customization opportunities.
The DMDII proved to be an extremely fitting location for the Forum, opened with a special welcome by Dr. Benno Bunse, Chairman/CEO of Germany Trade & Invest and featuring three highly informative keynotes by internationally leading experts.
Afterwards the forum delved into a content-focused discussion of what the Smart Factory means, elaborating on its growing strategic importance, opportunities, and challenges. Experts in their industries shared their unique perspectives on current trends and how these technological innovations are impacting their business. There were two panel discussions, the first focusing on the meaning of digitalization for the manufacturing world, the second looking at some practical examples and featuring German companies, including Siemens and Wittenstein.
Germany Trade & Invest, along with nine of Germany´s federal states, were on hand to highlight the numerous advantages Germany has to offer as a location for European smart factory business.
