2024 German Computer Games Awards Handed Out

Independent Hamburg studio Rockfish took home the top prize in the German game category, while Belgian developer Larian Studios won the international competition.

At a ceremony in Munich, Rockfish Games was singled out for the big award of the night for its game Everspace 2. The single-player shooter game is popular on the online platform Steam, and has been described as “Freelancer meets Diablo.” The award carried a prize of EUR 100,000.

Larian Studios came out ahead in the international category with its game “Baldur’s Gate 3.” The role-playing game has been called a “next generation Dungeons and Dragons.”

Nuremberg’s Pixel Maniacs was named studio of the year. In all, 15 awards were made.

The German Computer Games Awards (or DCP for short) are given out every year by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the industry organization game.

“This year’s DCP particularly demonstrates the wide range and creativity of games developed in Germany,” said State Secretary Michael Kellner at the ceremony. “This enormous diversity and creativity must be expanded further, and the potential of the industry must be utilized even more. As the federal government, we want to make an important contribution to this through our new games funding. The funding is to help ensure that games such as this year’s best international game also go on to be developed in Germany.”

“Once again, the German Computer Game Awards are proof of the creativity and innovative spirit of the German games industry, even in the difficult economic situation of recent months,” added game Managing Director Felix Falk. “Once again, we can see the huge potential of Germany as a location for the games industry, especially as this year there were more games made possible by federal funding than ever before. This shows that the right framework conditions unleash the true power of studios in Germany.”
