The inaugural two-day conference was hosted by the German Chancellery, the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, the German Finance Ministry and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s special representative for investment, former banker Martin Blessing, among others. In attendance were more than 200 investors, including the heads of many of the world’s biggest companies.
The featured guest on the first day was Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and the German government signed a cooperation agreement with the US chipmaker on artificial intelligence.
EUR 95.5 billion of the sum recorded so far this year comes from international companies. 70 business investments have a volume of over EUR 100 million.
“Germany is open for investment, Germany is open for companies – and Germany is prepared for faster growth,” said Chancellor Merz in his remarks. “We are open for business relationships and partnerships. We welcome foreign companies and investments.”
Promises for the future
US tech giant Amazon announced at the summit that it intends to put more than EUR 16 billion into its current operations in Germany. Nearly five billion will go toward expanding its cloud and artificial-intelligence Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Frankfurt. The company says it is also planning a second research laboratory for robotics and AI in Berlin.
The aim of the summit was to further stimulate private-sector investment in Europe’s largest economy. Some EUR 800 billion are set to be invested in Germany by the year 2028 under the private sector initiative “Made for Germany.”
According to the Finance Ministry, the German government allocates more than EUR 100 billion in public money annually to promote economic growth, competitiveness, modernization and business investment. EUR 500 billion have been earmarked for a comprehensive modernization of German infrastructure and an accelerated transition to climate neutrality. The government is also set to lower corporate income tax from 15 to 10 percent by 2032.
