German Exports Return to Growth

By a variety of measures, 2025 closed on a positive note thanks to Germany’s trading strength within and outside the European Union.

Germany’s Federal Statistical Office says that German exports totaled EUR 133.3 billion euros in December of last year. That represented a 4 percent rise month on month and a 2.7 percent increase year on year.

All told, German exports amounted to some EUR 1.56 trillion in 2025, a rise of one percent.

Germany’s positive trade balance was EUR 17.1 billion in December 2025 and EUR 200.4 billion for the year.

Exports to other EU countries amounted to EUR 75.3 billion in December for monthly rise of just over three percent. Exports to non-EU countries totaled EUR 589 billion for the month, an increase of five percent.

That growth compensated for yearly declines in exports to the United States, which remains the largest customer for German goods. China is Germany’s  largest trading partner.
