As per Iraqi requirements a single bidder cannot be invited to submit a technical and financial bid, the tender process had to be declared unsuccessful.



Rehabilitation of an existing 192 bed Nursing Home Special Hospital (NHSH) which was originally commissioned in 1982 in the Medical City in Baghdad. The project concerns the replacement or modernisation of existing outdated systems incl. improvements to functional areas, energy efficiency, fire protection, patient safety, etc.. The hospital will get the necessary capacities to treat a greater number of patients; the primary goal, however, is the improvement of quality of the healthcare infrastructure already in place. A main goal of the project is to provide hospital services that are affordable and safe and to increase the patient flow, especially the paying middle class. Therefor refurbishment measures have been identified to be performed on the occupied, fully operational NHSH, which are:

  • Particularly the aged infrastructure do require to a great extent a major overhaul. This includesamongst others the replacement of the complete wastewater pipes and rehabilitation of the central Air Handling Unit
  • All windows located at levels 3 to 7 to be replaced to triple glassed windows
  • Introduction of new services: 27 ICU / 16 HDU beds, organ transplant surgery, internal medicine, neurology, neonatology, endocrinology, diagnostics, orthopaedics
  • Renovation of all patient bedrooms and bathrooms, ward corridors, entrance hall
  • Relocation and renovation of Urology OT´s into outpatient OT department
  • Relocation of neurology OT´s currently located in outpatient OT department to new OT´s on 4th floor: Partial building addition on 4th floor for new OT´s on the 3rd floor roof top of the existing gynaecology / obstetrics OT
  • Extension of building for dialysis and dental department on 1st floor
  • Installation of photovoltaic panels
  • The procurement, installation and operationalization of high-end medical and non-medical equipment.
  • Introduction of PACS
  • Introduction of open source Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) along with the IT network and electronic medical records to give the direction towards a modern Health Information System approach that can be used throughout Iraq after successful piloting at NHSH.
