Consulting Services, Technical Audit (Green Hydrogen)

Project:

The German financial cooperation institution Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (“KfW”) and the South African state-owned enterprise Industrial Development Corporation (“IDC”) developed the “Promotion of Green Hydrogen in South Africa” Programme. The Programme addresses the challenge of sustainably ramping up a green hydrogen economy in South Africa, including the financing of catalytic projects (“PtX Projects”) that are required in the first phase of this market ramp-up. The purpose of the Programme is to contribute to promote the economic viability and sustainability of pilot projects for green hydrogen and its derivatives (“PtX”), support enterprises active in the field of PtX who apply for a participation in the Programme (the “PtX Developer”) and strengthening the role of the Recipient in building a PtX economy. This is to contribute to the transition towards an ecologically sustainable and less coal reliant as well as climate resilient economy in South Africa. To support the Government of South Africa in achieving its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) submitted under the Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and to position South Africa in the global green hydrogen market, the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Ltd (IDC) has been tasked to act as catalysator to commercialise green hydrogen investments in South Africa.

Requested Consultant Services: 

• The consultant is expected to work in close collaboration and coordination with IDC and KfW staff throughout this assignment to ensure the activities implemented as well as the results and recommendations are aligned with the requirements of both organizations. The assignment shall be implemented until all under the programme supported PtX Projects have reached the Commercial Operation Day.
