Orders were 7.8 percent on the previous month in December 2025. It was the biggest jump in three years and defied expert predictions of a slowdown.
The main growth driver was large-scale orders, particularly in metalwork, which was up over 30 percent. Machinery makers record a plus of 11.5 percent, and defense 5.7 percent. But smaller orders also rose by nearly a percent.
“A boom in orders at the end of the year,” Jens-Oliver Niklash, an economist at the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW), told Handelsblatt newspaper. “This really does look like a turnaround.”
