Top Investments of the Year 2025 in Saarland
Where life sciences drive progress and investors reap the benefits – Germany’s Saarland.
Jun 11, 2026
As a central hub and an attractive gateway for companies focusing on the west and south European markets and beyond, Saarland provides an ideal location. This is paired with a huge potential pool of specialists, short connections within the state, proximity to the French and Luxembourg borders, and direct connections to key transport links within Germany and Europe – all clear advantages for global players.
Investors here enjoy the perfect conditions for globally networked supply chains and collaborations – the exact structures required for the life sciences and other fields. Saarland sits at the heart of one of Europe’s most dynamic life sciences clusters and offers an impressively substantial corporate and hospital landscape. In addition, the responsible authorities stand out thanks to their industry-friendly attitude, short channels and efficient decision-making processes. This enables investors to quickly and reliably establish a foothold at the heart of Europe.
The setup fits. Things are working. These conditions are having an impact, which can be seen in the positive development enjoyed by companies that have relocated here: for example, Fresenius Medical Care’s growth into a world leader for dialysis machines is closely linked to Saarland. Dialysis solutions, dialysers and other renal replacement therapy equipment are all manufactured here. The company established its first production lines in St. Wendel to the north, and the combined engineering expertise on offer there still plays a key role in further developing production.
The robust, innovative life sciences sector on the Saar boasts a closely-knit network of attractive employers, companies and other leading stakeholders. They are particularly skilled at contract research and manufacturing, where specialised partners offer customised solutions.
Tailored to current industry needs: high-tech and life sciences consulting specialist CRC opts for Saarland
Increasing dynamism in the high-tech and life sciences sectors is posing new challenges for both companies and public stakeholders in terms of quality assurance, regulatory requirements and pace of innovation. This means that key technologies such as clean room technology are becoming even more strategically important. The market is continually growing, driven by the expansion of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and high-tech industries as well as tighter quality and safety standards. In highly sensitive production and research environments such as semiconductor manufacturing, biotechnology or the pharmaceutical industry, controlled particle concentration, temperature and air purity conditions are essential, as even minor deviations can have a major impact on product quality and process reliability.
CRC Clean Room Consulting GmbH offers the ideal solutions to these challenges. In January 2026, the company and its specialists in planning high-tech and life sciences infrastructure opened a site in Saarland. This owner-run general planning firm has more than 40 years of experience in planning and implementing extremely complex industrial projects in semiconductor, high-tech and life sciences environments.
400 m² of office space in Saarland has allowed the company to boost its presence and its regional proximity to German customers, especially in the life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors in Saarland and the Rhine-Main region. The clean room specialists are therefore opening up new prospects for highly qualified specialists from a variety of technical sectors who will be able to actively help shape developments from the ground up. They plan to create 30 jobs in Saarlouis in the near future. CRC has successfully implemented countless major projects for prestigious companies and research institutions since it was founded in 1983. A total of more than 1,000,000 m² of technically complex spaces have been created since then. The company supports both national and international projects and has a presence in Germany via its subsidiaries in Freiburg, Augsburg, Dresden and now also Saarlouis.
It can also be found in Phoenix (USA), where a new project site is being set up. Furthermore, the company operates around the world on direct projects for its clients and supports international initiatives on the ground.
Its portfolio includes technical building services planning, laboratory planning, clean room planning, pure and ultra-pure media planning, EPCM, general planning and building planning. One particular area of focus is clean room solutions and clean production environments for the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries.
As an established consulting firm in the field of clean room technology, CRC supports projects throughout the entire life cycle – from concept, to implementation, to optimising existing systems. Projects are managed centrally, interdisciplinary teams coordinated, and regional partnerships further developed at the new site in Saarlouis.
Why Saarland?
Clean Room Consulting GmbH chose Saarland because, as they note, they wish to take advantage of the benefits that this location has to offer:
Cross-border location in the border triangle A perfect launch point for projects in Germany, France (Grand Est) and Luxembourg – with short routes to key industrial and business hubs.
High level of industrial and technical expertise A strong tradition of plant, mechanical and process engineering as well as growing expertise in the life sciences, medical technology and semiconductor-related industries.
Short channels to decision-makers Direct access to business development, state authorities and relevant partners enables efficient coordination and rapid processes.
Strong university and research landscape Proximity to Saarland University, htw saar and research institutes promotes innovation and skilled recruitment.
High employee retention and low fluctuation Stable teams and long-term retention of expertise creates continuity and reliability – especially for complex, large-scale projects.
With the support of gwSaar
Implementation partner gwSaar provided the company with comprehensive support and assistance for their project – from analysing the current market environment and selecting a suitable site on the Saar through to networking with relevant stakeholders from business, research and a variety of sectors. The gwSaar teams have therefore laid the foundations for a project that will strengthen Saarland’s position as a high-tech and life sciences hub for the long term and further enhance its international standing.
All in all, a very complex task. The successful support provided to this relocation once again highlights the role that the Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation plays as a central partner for forward-looking relocations and innovations.
