Germany Gets High Marks as GreenTech Business Location

The 2026 GreenTech Monitor records a high degree of satisfaction among Germany’s 2903 firms in the sector.

According to the report, published by industry organization Startup-Verband, 75 percent of entrepreneurs surveyed regarded Germany as the most attractive business location in Europe. Almost half (48%) also compared Germany favorably to the United States.

Berlin (549), Munich (222) and Hamburg (170) were the leading locations for Germany’s more than 2000 greentech start-ups.

Energy (675 start-ups) continued to be a major sector in the field. Many Greentech start-ups are working toward not only sustainability but resilience.

“The issue of energy sovereignty will decide whether we will be able to preserve our industry, expand our IT infrastructure and become less vulnerable to global shocks,” said Startup-Verband chairwoman Verena Pausder in a statement. “We have a lot of founders who are bringing their expertise and working here on sustainable solutions.”
