The US automaker says it will massively expand its commitment to producing batteries at its plant in Grünheide near Berlin.
The planned additional half-billion investment will allow Tesla to make up to 18 gigawatt hours of car batteries at the site. Previously the company planned on only eight gigawatt hours’ worth.
As of 2027, Tesla plans to make everything from battery cells to complete electric vehicles at the Grünheide plant – something the company says is unique in Europe.
Tesla’s announcement comes amidst news that registrations of its electric vehicles are on the rise in Germany.
