Electric Mobility

Germany is World’s Second-Largest EV Maker

More electric vehicles were produced in Germany than anywhere else on the globe except China in 2025.

The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) says that some 1.67 million EVs rolled off German assembly lines last year – an annual increase of 23 percent. That puts Europe’s largest economy behind China but ahead of the United States.

Battery electric vehicles represented the vast majority, 1.22 million, of that number. Some 450,000 plug-in hybrids were produced – an annual rise of 54 percent. The VDA expects additional growth for 2026.

40 percent of all cars made in Germany are now electric vehicles, more than ever before.

“Domestic production of EVs is at a record level,” said VDA President Hildegard Müller in a statement. “That demonstrates, impressively and clearly, that the German automotive industry is determined to press on with e-mobility and climate-neutral mobility.”
