Nearly 60 Percent of German Electricity Now Renewable
In the first half of this year, clean energy sources, led by wind power, accounted for 59.1 percent of the electricity in the German grid.

The share of renewables in Germany’s domestically produced electricity mix rose roughly one percent over H1 2025.
Wind remained Germany’s most important source of electricity (29.4 percent), followed by coal (21.4 percent), photovoltaics (17.8 percent) and natural gas (16.5 percent).
The net amount of electricity Germany imported booked a significant annual decrease from 8.3 billion kilowatt hours to 0.6 billion Kwh. That was the result of more electricity being domestically produced.
Germany currently generates and feeds into the grid one-quarter more renewably produced electricity than in 2018, the first year such statistics were collected.
