    Germany Welcomes Tesla Gigafactory to Berlin-Brandenburg Location

    The proverbial champagne corks were popping after Tesla founder Musk enthused “Berlin rocks!” and announced the American carmaker would be setting up shop in the German capital and surrounding state of Brandenburg. Tesla reportedly plans to establish its fourth so-called Gigafactory in the Brandenburg town of Grünheide as well as a design and engineering center in Berlin itself. The project will create an estimated 10,000 jobs and is expected to be up and running by late 2021.

    Germany Invests Hundreds of Millions in Green Hydrogen

    As part of the Energiewende, Germany’s transition to non-nuclear, sustainable power sources, the Ministry of Education and Research will pump at least 300 million euros more into research on green hydrogen by 2023. 180 million euros in ministry funds were already allocated to such research in the coming years. The new influx of funds comes after the government cabinet approved its draft legislative “climate package.”

    German IT Security Spending Reaches All-Time High

    Companies in Germany, as they are around the world, are spending unprecedented amounts to protect their IT infrastructure. That’s the conclusion of a brand new study carried out by the IT market research company IDC and commissioned by Germany’s digital association Bitkom. 2019 expenditures will reach an estimated 4.6 billion euros – a double-figure per-centage increase over 2018, which was itself a record year.

    Germany invests €40bn to transform coal regions

    The German cabinet is putting forward legislation allocating 40 billion euros to help coal-producing regions transition to sustainable economies. The money is earmarked for regions in the states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and North Rhine-Westphalia, and the law is expected to pass the German parliament by the end of this year.

    German EV Charging Stations Up 50%

    The German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) says that the number of public EV charging stations role more than 50 percent from summer 2018 to summer 2019. Germany currently has 20,650 stations, up from 13,500 the previous year. 12 percent of them were rapid charging stations. There are now more EVs on the road in Germany than in any European country.

    Germany pledges €100 million a year for sustainable energy technology testing

    Environmental sector in Germany grows 5.7%

    Turnover in Germany’s environmental protection sector rose from 70 to 73.9 billion euros from 2016 to 2017, the country’s Federal Office of Statistics has announced. That continues an impressive track record of growth. 66 billion euros were generated by environmental goods, construction and services in 2015.
