The draft laws were announced on August 6 and will be submitted to the German parliament for debate.
The proposed legal measures include:
- lifting the Gas Storage Surcharge (Gasspeicherumlage) to lower prices for businesses, big and small, and individual consumers
- a law to accelerate the expansion of geothermal energy production, heat pumps and heat storage facilities
- a law to “simplify, de-bureaucratize and accelerate” the expansion of offshore wind energy and electricity networks
- changes to energy industry regulations to better protect consumers against disproportionate price increases, promote “energy sharing” and accelerate the rollout of smart power meters.
