Munich to Get Microchip Design Center
The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is expanding operations to the Bavarian capital.

The facility will be known as the European Union Design Center (EUDC) and is planned to open in the third quarter of this year. It’s the Taiwanese chip makers first site of this kind in Europe and follows upon TSMC’s decision to make the eastern German city of Dresden its first European production location.
“Germany is increasingly becoming a first-choice location for global high-tech investments,” explains Germany Trade & Invest CEO and Chairwoman Julia Braune. “TSMC's selection of Munich as the location for its new design center clearly recognizes German engineering expertise, innovative strength and fully developed industrial value chain. The decision will not only create high-quality jobs locally but also further strengthen our strategic autonomy in the semiconductor sector.”
EUDC designs could be used at the EUR 10 billion Dresden megafab and could be employed generally for artificial intelligence, telecommunications and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Munich is also already home to a research and development center of American IT colossus Apple.
