The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with a regional industrial park (Industriepark Lausitz) on a site owned by chemicals giant BASF in the town of Schwarzheide. Schwarzheide is already home to carmaker Tesla’s German plant.
Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) helped convince the Canadian-French company to pick Germany.
“In challenging times for the chemical industry, this investment sends a strong signal,” says GTAI CEO Julia Braune. “We’re delighted that Infinite Loop Europe has chosen Germany. This further strengthens the industrial circular economy in Europe.“
The company plans to invest at least EUR 100 million in the project, which is expected to create 150 new jobs.
“Innovative plastic recycling is a perfect fit for the region,” said the head of the regional investment promotion agency WFBB, Steffen Kammradt, in a statement. “Lusatia in particular is staking its future on new, sustainable net-zero technologies."
