Acceptance of smart metering in Europe’s largest economy is growing. 75 percent of Germans can now imagine having smart meters in their homes – well up on the 57 percent who responded affirmatively in a survey from 2022.
70 percent of those asked said the roll-out of smart meters in Germany, begun six years ago, wasn’t proceeding fast enough.
“Smart meters are a crucial element of the transition to clean energy,” said Bitkom’s managing director, Bernhard Rohleder, in a statement. “They make electricity consumption transparent and allow energy to be used more efficiently. A rapid, comprehensive roll-out is needed for them to reach their full potential.”
