Study Documents Vitality of German Gaming Sector

The German government has highlighted the “dynamic growth” of the industry over the past half decade.

A new government report on the gaming sector – the third of its kind after 2017 and 2020 – shows that the number of gaming companies nearly doubled over the period in question. Some 1200 firms currently work in the area in Germany. And annual turnover has risen 22 percent, reaching EUR 3.73 billion.

The German Ministry for Research, Technology and Space is currently responsible for the gaming industry. The government is very enthusiastic about the sector, saying it sees good returns on the public money invested.

“The games industry is one of the most important and economically powerful sub-sectors of the cultural and creative industries,” said Minister Dorothee Bär in a statement. “Our goal is to develop Germany into a leading location for the games industry. This brings clear added value, as the latest industry study shows that the games industry is also a key driver of innovation and an important sector for skills development. Every euro invested in funding generates many times that amount in added value.”
