More and more German companies and private households are investing in solar power. The 4.8 million installed PV units at the end of 2025 have a capacity of some 106,200 megawatts.
By comparison, at the end of 2024, there were 4 million installed units with a capacity of 95,000 megawatts.
Imports of PV units fell last year, while exports from Germany rose.
Meanwhile, in 2023, the most recent year for which figures are available, almost five percent of private households in Germany earned income from the sale of PV-generated electricity.
The German Solar Industry Association says that photovoltaics covered 18 percent of German electricity consumption – an increase of four percentage points over 2024. Solar power feed-in reached 70 terrawatt hours.
