Munich Space Start-Up Becomes Germany’s Latest Unicorn

Isar Aerospace has cracked the USD one billion valuation mark after a successful funding round.

The start-up from the Bavarian capital achieved unicorn status after taking in EUR 150 million in fresh capital. The funding round was led by well-known US investor Todd Boehly’s Eltridge Industries.

“We are catering to the rising global demand for satellite launch services and provide global markets and governments with independent and flexible access to space,” said Isar Aerospace CEO and co-founder Daniel Metzler in a statement. “This investment demonstrates strong confidence from global markets in our efforts to build a new space champion.”

Isar says it will use the money to expand launch capabilities and series production facilities. The company specializes in transporting small and medium-sized satellites into Earth orbit. It was founded in 2018 and currently has over 400 employees working in five international locations.
