WBG’s Farms and Agribusiness unit covers the industry that caters to one of the basic human needs: food and nutrition security. Agribusiness plays a critical role in providing food, goods and services to consumers, creating jobs, and contributing to economic growth. WBG has made agribusiness a priority because of its potential for broad development impact and especially strong role in poverty reduction. It combines investment and advisory services to help the sector address higher demand and escalating food prices in an environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive way. WBG's commitment in Agribusiness is to prioritize smallholder supply chains to generate increased yields in a sustainable, resilient manner and allow smallholder producers to move up the value chain. This idea is further emphasized WBG-led AgriConnect initiative that prioritizes farming and agribusiness as a driver of jobs and economic growth and aims to improve the lives and opportunities of 300 million farmers. WBG’s Agribusiness Advisory team aims to support private sector clients along strategic themes: crop production, smallholder supply chains, animal protein, food safety, food fortification, and food loss and waste.
