IFC — a member of the World Bank Group — is the largest global development institution dedicated to private sector development in emerging markets. Operating in more than 100 countries, IFC deploys its capital, expertise, and networks to create markets and unlock opportunities across the developing world. IFC harnesses the transformative power of private enterprise to generate employment, drive economic growth, and advance shared prosperity. For more information, visit www.ifc.org.   IFC's Local Champions Initiative (LCI) is designed to deepen investment pipelines and support structured growth pathways of MSMEs that combine capacity building, financing, and sustained client engagement to drive business growth, job creation, and private sector development.   Spearheaded by IFC's Fragile and Conflict Situations team (FCS Africa) across the continent's most fragile and conflict-affected markets, the initiative is now seeking to expand its reach to non-fragile countries where access to finance for small, and medium enterprises (SMEs) remains a critical barrier to growth.   Building on this momentum, the IFC Senegal Country Management Unit, in close collaboration with the FCS Africa team, is leading the launch of an assessment phase of the Local Champions Initiative in Senegal. This phase is designed to develop a rigorous understanding of the SME ecosystem, mapping financing pathways and diagnosing critical gaps, while identifying and screening prospective businesses to assess their bankability, investment readiness, and technical assistance needs. The insights and pipeline generated will directly inform a subsequent implementation phase aimed at expanding IFC's investment portfolio, strengthening the capacity of local private sector actors and supporting their growth, and advancing IFC's country strategy in Senegal by addressing persistent financing constraints and catalyzing sustainable, locally led economic development.
