German-Finnish Quantum-Computing Firm Worth a Billion

IQM Quantum Computer has cracked the USD one billion valuation mark and become a unicorn, according to business newspaper Handelsblatt.

IQM crossed the symbolically important threshold after a successful USD 320 million series B funding round. It was the largest deal ever for a quantum computing start-up in Europe.

“This funding round will fuel our company growth, with an accelerated tech roadmap towards error corrected systems from thousand to million qubits,” said IQM co-founder and Co-CEO Jan Goetz on the company website. “We also focus on strong business expansion in the US and other global markets based on our attractive on-premises offerings for quantum computers and the recently announced upgrade of our cloud offering.”

IQM has built over 30 quantum computers and filed more than 300 quantum computing patent applications. It has its headquarters in Espoo, Finland and the southern German city of Munich.
