Google has announced that it will no longer be making its Nest smart thermostats available on the European market – and recommended that customers using first-generation devices switch to Tado products.
“We’re a bit proud that we’ve prevailed,” Christian Deilmann, the founder of the Munich start-up told business newspaper Handelsblatt. “Google Nest was our first big competitor.”
The European market, Google explained, presents hardware and software challenges, making it more difficult to develop suitable new models.
In March, Japanese electronics giant Panasonic invested EUR 30 million in Tado. Together, the two companies offer what Tado calls “the first smart heat pump bundle of its kind.”
