Final Funding Approved for Infineon Dresden Fab

Germany’s Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has given the ultimate green light to the roughly EUR 6 billion project.

Infineon’s Smart Port Fab will further bolster European microelectronics supply chains and underscores the status of Dresden and the regional state of Saxony as Europe’s leading semiconductor hub.

The company is receiving EUR 920 million in state support for the project. The European Union approved the subsidies in February . The first stage of construction is nearly complete, and production is expected to commence in 2026.

"The final funding approval for our Smart Power Fab is an important milestone for us as a company and is a clear signal to the European semiconductor ecosystem," said Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck in a statement. "We are grateful to the German federal government, the Free State of Saxony and to the European Union for their support.”
