French Industrial Gas Maker to Invest Quarter-Billion in Eastern Germany

France’s Air Liquide is planning a EUR 250 million expansion of its existing facilities in the city of Dresden.

The company will build three Air Separation Units (ASUs), two hydrogen production units and associated infrastructure. They will be used to produce gases including ultra-pure nitrogen, oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium and CO2.

ASUs are crucial to semiconductor production. Dresden is a hub of eastern German chip manufacturing in an area often nicknamed “Silicon Saxony.“ The north of Dresden is home to chipmakers such as TSMC, Bosch and Infineon.

Air Liquide’s investment is the company’s largest ever in support oft he European electronics sector. The new facilities will go operational in 2027, says Air Liquide.
