Munich to Get State-of-the Art Microchip Testing Plant
Start-Up QuantumDiamonds is planning a EUR 152 million facility to be used by giant global semiconductor manufacturers.

The plant will be the first of its kind in the world and will include a quantum diamond microscope. Roughly half of the cost of the facility is being covered by the German national government and the regional state of Bavaria under the European Chips Act.
Quantum Diamonds is a spin-out of the Technical University of Munich. The start-up has tried out its testing procedures with nine of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, including TSMC and Samsung, writes German news magazine Spiegel. Quantum Diamond hopes to generate EUR 10-20 billion in turnover a year.
“We’ve been looking for fifteen years for the ability to test chips precisely and without damage,” former TSMC team director and now Quantum Diamonds consultant David Su told Spiegel.
The planned subsidies now go to the EU Commission for approval.
