Germany Records 11 Percent Increase in Renewable Power Capacity in 2025

Renewable power capacity increased by 11 percent in 2025 with almost 210 GW in new installations across the country.

Germany recorded an 11 percent increase in renewable electricity capacity in 2025 according to data revealed by the country’s Bundesnetzagentur (“Federal Network Agency”). With new renewable electricity generation installations of almost 210 GW in the past year, renewable energy share of the power mix set a new record of almost 56 percent of German electricity consumption.

Strong renewable capacity expansion and record share of the power mix are strong indicators of the progress being made as part of Germany’s ambitious energy transition plans. Solar and onshore wind energy showed the way forward, with 117 GW and 68.1 GW capacity levels respectively for the previous year. Offshore wind capacity in the Baltic and North Seas also rose to 9.5 GW in 2025.

According to the Bundesnetzagentur, Germany needs to increase onshore wind energy capacity by 9.4 GW annually to meet its 115 GW onshore wind energy target by 2030. Expectations of strong growth in the sector have been borne out by all 2025 onshore wind tender processes being oversubscribed. The fourth and most recent tender round was oversubscribed by twice the levels allocated, with record tender bids of 8.1 GW exceeding the actual auctioned volume of around 3.5 GW.
