Germany is the coordinator of this pan-European initiative and will be putting more than EUR 3 billion into the project.
“Europe must become faster, bolder and more independent in the technological sphere,” said German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche in a statement. “The IPCEI AST initiative is designed to address precisely these needs. The 38 German projects selected range from AI chips to state-of-the-art production facilities, and they strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty. Innovative German small and medium-sized enterprises are well represented—about one-third of the selected companies are startups and SMEs.”
The initiative now enters the “matchmaking phase,” which will link the German companies with partners from other European Union countries to create joint European value chains.
